I am proud to tell you that my first task has been completed! I have now checked-off “decorate a fancy cake”, thanks to my new fabulous friends at Bread Winners! Shortly after my first blog post I was contacted by the marketing/PR firm for Bread Winners with an invitation to decorate a fancy cake – I couldn’t believe it. Someone was seriously going to let me into their kitchen! I didn’t want to give them time to question their offer, so I quickly said YES before they could change their mind. Between you and me – I was pretty sure my cake decorating skills were going to be a disaster. I pictured icing on the ceilings, flour all over the floor, and total disaster zone with a non-edible end result. Don’t worry, it wasn’t that bad.

This past Saturday (January 21, 2012 at 11:30am to be exact), I went over to the Bread Winners at Inwood Village (*side note – awesome place for brunch! Or lunch or dinner!) to meet with Olga, their head pastry chef. When I arrived, I was immediately treated like a celebrity! Like one of the Kardashians…but different. Everyone was so friendly and excited for me to be there.

First things first, we had to decide which type of cake we were going to decorate. Olga escorted me to the front of the bakery where all of the cakes were displayed and she asked me which one I wanted to make. I froze. Was this a bad time to tell her that I don’t actually eat sweets? Yeah, probably not the best thing to share… so I decided to keep that to myself. I made my decision 100% on looks – taste/flavor meant nothing. I honestly just wanted a pretty cake challenging enough for a good time. The result: Chocolate Seduction – the name sounded awesome and it was pretty. The ironic thing about all of this…I don’t eat chocolate either. Shhhhh….don’t tell!

Olga has been a pastry chef for 8 years and taught herself everything that she knows. I was in good hands!

Creative moment – the reason this wasn’t posted on Thirty Before Thirty THURSDAYs (like planned), is because I thought it would be much more fun for you to see my adventure through a little video/photo montage. So last night I put this little baby together. (I know what you’re thinking…”Is there anything I can’t do?”) Check it out and let me know what you think! Note: it’s not likely that I will make a video for all 30 tasks…but I will try. Consider it one more thing on my to-do list!

I hope you enjoyed the video as much as I enjoyed my cake decorating adventure!

A big THANK YOU to Olga and all my new friends at Bread Winner’s for helping me complete my first task! Also, THANK YOU to my sweet friend Megan for taking pictures and videos of this adventure.

What will I do next?

XOXO
Courtney
